Stevia

Stevia is a naturally derived sweetener and sugar substitute. It is derived from the leaves of the South American plant Stevia rebaudiana. 

The two main active compounds of Stevia are Stevioside and Rebaudioside. Combined they have up to 150 times the sweetness of sugar. 

As the human body does not break down the glycosides during digestion, Stevia is calorie-free. 

It is a approved food additive, which today is mainly used in the beverages industry.
