Sodium stearate is the sodium salt of Stearic acid. It is the most common soap used globally. Having both hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts, it can influence the formation of micelles.
Sodium stearate can be added into various construction products like concrete. It can modify and influence the water retention and hydrophobic properties of the concrete.
Water absorbtion in concrete leads to cracking, spalling, pitting, freeze-thaw damage, mold and mildew growth, and efflorescence formation.
